In 2010, the internet saw some radical changes on social media, internet usage and the way content is being populated and exchanged online. Looking at the figures, you’d think – Damn! When did this really happen ?

1. Internet Users in the Middle East has risen to 63.2 million by 2010.

The Middle East population is estimated at 212 million. This means that the penetration ratio of the Internet with respect to its population is 29.8% – the biggest ever recorded !

2. In Middle East, Iran is the country with the maximum Internet penetration ratio.

With a penetration ratio of 52.5%, its got an enviable internet population compared to other countries in the Middle East.

3. There was an increase of 14% in the number of Internet users worldwide in 2010.

Which is seriously interesting and goes to answer those skeptics who claims that the internet is saturated. No. It is growing, and at a pace we’ve seen never before.

While many of us may wonder and just hope for the best as we ship off our precious cargo in UPS or FedEx, the bright minds at Popular Mechanics just couldn’t let it rest.

Popular Mechanics created a sensor that measures when a box is dropped, jostled, overheated or frozen. Then, they shipped the sensor a dozen times through UPS, Fed-Ex and USPS to test which service is easiest on your packages.

Working with National Instruments, an industrial test and measurement company, Popular Mechanics created a data-logging device capable of gauging and recording vibration, temperature and orientation.

62.4 Million People Now Watch Internet Video During Primetime

Good news for online video sites like Hulu and Blip.tv: More people are watching their favorite shows on the Internet during primetime, according to a report by Jessica E. Vascellaro in today's Wall Street Journal.

Some stats:

  • "The number of people who watched Internet video from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday rose 14% to 62.4 million from March 2009 to March 2010, according to Nielsen Co. Viewership from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. rose only 1% to 45.4 million."
  • Blip.tv's peak viewing time has moved to to 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. a year ago.
  • "Online video service Revision3's prime-time views now top lunchtime views by 20%."
  • "Evening viewing at video site Break.com has grown 18% in the past eight months, while daytime viewing was up less than 5% in the same period."
